Today's "field trip"

I should preface this by saying that I have the world's best husband, but that should be apparent in a minute.

Mr. Jane's birthday gift to me this year was a spa day. So today was spa day for me. Now, I'm a firm believer in rest and rejuvenation and taking time for oneself, but I had never done the spa thing before. Let me tell you, I am now a convert. This might have to become a yearly thing.

The best parts of the day were the massage and the facial. Going into the massage, I thought I was pretty relaxed....but then the massage therapist said "well, I'm certainly not going to be able to work out all of your shoulder knots today". Oops. Seriously though, the massage was wonderful, especially since I kind of overdid it this weekend with the physical activity, and my muscles are still recovering....it was nice to have some trained hands work out all of the soreness in my legs and back.

And the facial....wow. I never would have thought to get one for myself, but wow. I don't remember the last time I was that relaxed or that comfortable. I actually felt like I was floating at one point. I seriously did not want to get up from the table at the end.

It's funny, but being cared for is not something that I devote a lot of thought to. I mean, I can take care of myself, obviously, and Mr. Jane and I take care of and occasionally pamper each other. But there is something very restorative about having someone, even an absolute stranger (or maybe especially an absolute stranger) care for you, touch you, and pamper you. Perhaps it's just a subtle reminder that we can and should take time for ourselves and pamper ourselves (and each other) a little bit every day.

I used to have a job where one of the little perks my boss would give us was gift certificates to a local masseuse. Boy, do I miss that. I got massages once a month. I keep saying I'm going to take a day like that, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Glad you enjoyed it! A good pampering does wonders.

Laura, that is the best job perk I've ever heard! (Of course the flip side of that could be that your job was so stressful that you needed the massage....?) Wow. WitchyProf, I am intrigued by the foot reflexology...will have to try that at some point.

I'd really like to make massage a more regular part of my life. I'm thinking maybe at the end of the semester/term, I could treat myself. I don't tend to splurge on myself a lot, but this seems like a worthwhile "mental health" expenditure!
