No motivation, day 2

What I should be doing: Debugging all of the code I wrote last week. Adding the features I was thinking about adding to the code last week. Testing the code. Writing up that simulation code I sketched out while at the conference. Picking a textbook for one of my fall courses. Reading through the stack of papers on my desk that my students tracked down, that are relevant to our project. Working on my review dossier.

What I am actually in the mood to do: Writing one or more of the 5-6 blog entry ideas I came up with while running around campus this morning. Napping. Watching Wimbledon.

What I've ended up doing: The equivalent of staring at the wall. Starting one thing, getting bored, and jumping to something else. Socializing. Whining to my colleagues. Printing stuff out.

What I'm going to do right now to change my situation: Go to the gym. Maybe that's what I need to get my focus back. Hopefully this workout won't kick my butt as badly as last night's workout did...

Sorry to hear you've got the motivation blues. I know what it's like though and it drives me nuts. How often do you let yourself do what you're really in the mood to do? I'm curious to read the 5-6 blogs entries you've come up with!! I suppose napping could be a bit difficult to do while at the office :-). So what did you do for a workout? And who are you rooting for in Wimbledon?

Turtle, if the motivation is really not there, I will often just go with the flow. Sometimes, just doing that is enough to get me out of the rut, and I find that if I really don't want to do something and force myself to do it, it will not get done. The workout was nice---went for a run---but did not help the motivation. Oh, well.

and Wimbledon: would love to see Roddick win, although I doubt anyone can beat Federer. Would also love to see Davenport win this one, but if Venus could pull it off then that would be very cool.

oh, and speaking as someone who mastered the art of napping in front of her computer in grad school (sitting up, no less), napping in the office is no problem. :)

Oooh, I'm impressed with the sleeping in front of the computer ability!

Also rooting for Roddick over Federer, although I'm enjoying Federer more and more these days. Leaning slightly more towards Venus, but Davenport is also growing on me a bit. Hmmm, looks like I'll be happy all around this year! :-)
