Things they don't tell you about motherhood

Mr. Jane is putting Baby Jane to bed and doing her pre-bed feeding.

Baby Jane is screaming at the top of her lungs and has been for the last 5-10 minutes.

It is taking every single ounce of willpower I have to not go to her.

It is breaking my heart.

Sigh.

I don't think urge ever goes away! Especially if you are a control freak, like me! Hang in there...

Thank heavens for breastfeeding, I know I wouldn't handle hearing the crying. LOL You're stronger than me.

Poor, Jane. This is definitely a hard transition to make!!

Bug has finally gotten to a point where he's happy when Daddy puts him to bed, but there are still times when he cries. It may be worse for me now that he sometimes yells, "Mommy! Mommy!" instead of just crying. ;-)

But, Daddy's rock. And Mommy's may not always be home at bedtime, so we know on some level that a little yelling is really ok in the big picture.

This goes back to go for tenure or not.Actually, it goes to stay in a bricks-and-mortar academic setting or set out on your own with website, blog, podcast, and YouTube videos.

Think about it Jane. No need to run out the door and meet a class-face-to-face, you don't have to supress you feelings about negative comments from colleagues because they control whether or not you get tenure. No, you are the boss and maybe--if the business model is right--you will be richer and more self-satisfied than all your colleagues.

Just think, although we don't know what her net profit was, last year that woman made four million dollars in sales.

Read the article and ask yourself is it really worth being an academician when compared to that woman in the article.

So far as the baby crying goes, there's a teddy bear on the market which has a mother's heart beat that the baby can listen to in the crib to help comfort the baby and lull them to sleep. Give it a try. A friend says it worked for them quite well. (Othewise, just put a joystick in the crib attached to a computer and let the baby teach itself to play video games and distract herself from crying that way. Whichever works best. :)
