* Today, I realized that I had committed to something that I forgot to put on my calendar, and that this commitment conflicted with my gym time (which, yay me, I had actually written in on my calendar). I could have rearranged my schedule so that I could do the commitment and go to the gym, but it would have cut into my research time. So I pretended to forget about the commitment and I went to the gym. Mental and physical health 1, tenure and promotion 0.
* Also gym related: I was having not just a good hair day, but a once-in-a-lifetime fabulous hair day. And my gym time was scheduled before another meeting. How to keep the fabulous hair for the meeting and reap the benefits of exercise---what's a girl to do? So, I showered after my workout, but did not wash my hair. Eeeeew. (But the hair still does look fabulous!)
* Sometimes, when I shut my office door, it's to keep my colleagues away more so than to keep the students away.

I do the same thing to protect my workouts. Very necessary.
Wish I could get away with working out and still having fabulous hair after, though. I'm always way too wilty and sweaty for that.
I close the door to keep the colleagues away, too!
The hair problem is one of my excuses for not swimming midday.
I close the door to keep out colleagues, but they knock when they see my light on... can I ignore the knocking? Not usually.
Re: bullet 3. Yes, faculty, and more especially in my dept, the grad students.
Wow, so I'm not the only "evil" one here, I see! It's strangely comforting to hear that bothersome colleagues are universal. :)
PG, usually my hair does get all yucky during the workout, but I've figured out a way to put it up out of my face in such a way as to minimize the sweatiness....hard to explain, but useful in situations like these.
