Why I Love My Job

This morning, a student of mine from last year stopped by to request a letter of recommendation and to chat. We had a very nice chat (I wish sometimes that I wasn't so darn busy, that I had more time to get to know my students). And in the midst of our conversation, the student spoke at length about how much she had learned in my class, how it really changed her view on the subject matter, and how much fun she had. This really made my day. But then, she went on to say that she highly recommends me as a prof to her friends (!), and that she is planning on taking another class with me in the future. And this is not one of our majors, or potential majors....just someone who took a class from me on a whim last year.

After the week from hell that I just had, and going into several more weeks of hell, this was just what I needed to hear. I'm truly glad and humbled that I was able to make a difference in at least one of my student's lives.
